Empowering Youth To Build Skills Through Informed Fun!
Upstate Respite Services, Inc. (URS) was established in 2004 to provide hourly planned respite and skill building services to the targeted population consisting of seriously emotionally disturbed (SED) children and adolescents in a community setting. Since that time these services have been meted out to dozens of children in nine counties in the Capital District region of New York State in a cost effective manner by highly trained respite providers and skill builders.

The staff of URS is cleared through the Office of Children and Family Services, a criminal background check is conducted by the Division of Criminal Justice System (DCJS) and all employees are required to complete a New York State Office of Mental Health training prior to providing services. The training consists of the following components:

  • Cultural Diversity
  • Normal Growth and Development
  • Effective Use of Activities
  • Basic Engagement Skills
  • Working in a Family’s Homes
  • Common Mental Health Diagnoses
  • Required Reporting
  • Safety/First-Aid
  • Individualized Care
  • Dealing With Behavior and Crisis Situations
